Strüdel came about in quite an interesting way, an amalgamation of many riffs written over the years. Beginning with a fun, almost goofy call and response section, the second groove that holds a guitar solo came from a former band known as "The Purple Fire Bison Collective." Deep Purple-ish seems to fit the nature of the transition riff that comes next. The progressive nature of the song allowed the band to mash up riffs in different combinations and the instrumentation, complete with banjo, keyboard, bass, guitar, drums, and vocals, contributed to a song without any boundaries. After an ambient bass and keyboard solo section, the song returns to a funky groove with another riff from the PFBC days. After the vocal section, the song breaks to a guitar solo section in 5/4 that is distinctly Phish-like in its execution. Always returning to the funky groove, the song breaks once more into a spiritual, lifting passage, a bass harmonics solo section, fading for a final ambient drone.
lyrics
It's the best and greatest, time of the day, when all is calm, just arisen, apply energy.
Turn on the breakfast machine, to create vitality, for it is, the morning for either rooster's crow or a tasty pastry.
You can't really go wrong, with a balanced diet of fruits and carbs. Why not have both in one strange design? You can borrow my toaster, it'll only cost a dime!
